Hydrocarbons are gaseous,
liquid and solid substances with molecules made of hydrogen atoms and of carbon
atoms. Natural gas, liquid gas, petrol, Diesel and wax are examples of hydrocarbons.
* Take black plastic beads
as models of carbon atoms
and white beads
as models of hydrogen atoms.
* By welding
and by wire connection you can make models of
hydrocarbon molecules from them.
1. One molecule
of natural gas (CH4) : 1 black and 4 white beads.
2. One molecule
of liquid gas (C4H10): 4 black and 10 white beads.
3.-5.Three molecules in petrol
(C8H18): 8 black and 18 or 16 white beads.
6. One molecule
in Diesel (C16H34):16 black
and 34 white beads.
