Substitution
is a chemical reaction in which one atom (hydrogen) is replaced by another
atom (hydrogen) in a hydrocarbon.
A brown solution of bromine
in hexane is transformed into colourless bromehexane by light. Hydrogen
bromide gas is also formed which can be tested by damp universal indicator
paper (right photo).
